How much does custom meat processing typically cost?

Custom meat processing is priced at $1.05 per pound based on the hanging weight of the animal. Final pricing depends on the animal's size and any specialty processing options you choose, such as bacon, sausage, jerky, or smoked products. If you're purchasing a whole beef from Easternview Farms, pricing typically ranges from $4,500 to $5,000, depending on availability and size.

What is the difference between USDA-inspected and custom meat processing?

The biggest difference is how the meat can be used after processing. Custom processed meat is for the owner's personal use only and cannot be resold. USDA-inspected meat is processed under USDA inspection and can legally be sold to the public. Easternview Farms offers both options and can help determine which service is right for your needs.

How long does meat processing usually take?

Most beef and pork processing is completed in approximately three weeks, while sheep and goats are typically finished in two weeks or less. Processing times may vary slightly depending on scheduling and any specialty products requested.

What custom meat cuts can I request?

Easternview Farms processes your animal according to your preferences. You can request virtually any standard cuts, including steaks, roasts, ground meat, chops, stew meat, and more. During the cutting process, our team works with you one-on-one to ensure your order is prepared exactly the way you want it.

Is vacuum-sealed packaging worth it?

Yes. Vacuum-sealed packaging helps preserve meat for up to three years by removing air that causes freezer burn. Best of all, Easternview Farms includes vacuum sealing at no additional cost, making it easy to store your meat while maintaining its quality.

How much freezer space do I need for a whole, half, or quarter beef?

A 20-cubic-foot freezer is typically recommended for a whole beef. A half beef generally requires about 10 cubic feet, while a quarter beef needs approximately 5 cubic feet. Planning your freezer space ahead of time ensures you'll have plenty of room when your order is ready for pickup.

How long does properly packaged meat last in the freezer?

When vacuum sealed and stored properly, meat can maintain its quality for up to three years. Proper packaging helps protect the meat from freezer burn while preserving freshness and flavor for long-term storage.

What should I consider before buying bulk beef or pork?

Before purchasing bulk meat, it's important to know where the animal came from and how it was raised. You should also make sure you have enough freezer space to store your order. Buying directly from Easternview Farms gives you confidence in the quality of the meat and its source.

What happens during the meat processing process?

After your animal arrives, it is allowed to rest before processing. The animal is then humanely processed, cleaned, sprayed with vinegar, and placed in a cooler to age. Beef typically hangs for about 14 days before being broken down into primal cuts. From there, steaks, roasts, ground beef, and other requested cuts are prepared, vacuum sealed, labeled, frozen, and packaged for customer pickup.

What should I do before bringing livestock in for processing?

Before your appointment, have your trailer ready and parked in a location that's easy for unloading. This is especially important for hogs, as they can be more difficult to load and unload. Arriving prepared helps make the drop-off process smooth and safe for both the animals and everyone involved.
